Waukegan Public Library Waukegan, Illinois

The existing modern limestone structure was built in 1965. Respecting the aesthetics of the original building, we extensively remodeled and updated the 65,000 S.F. structure. The project includes a colorful and bright new children's library, audiovisual library, and auditorium located in lower level and accessed by a new elevator. The main level space was renovated with new finishes, circulation desks and furnishings. The upper level received extensive modifications to the administrative offices. On the exterior, the streetscape was significantly changed by opening an enclosed courtyard to the street and by increasing the area that was landscaped. The change imparts a friendlier, more welcoming image as well as providing a venue for concerts, children's programs and other library social programs.
